My route to homeopathy was an eye-opening experience for me. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1974, I had always known that I wanted to treat peoples' health, equating that to becoming an allopathic doctor. So I enrolled to complete my bachelor's degree in Kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton as a precursor to medical school. As a part of my degree many of my practicums had me in placements throughout the attached teaching hospital, from ER to wards to surgery. After 4 years of being 'behind the scenes' so-to-speak, I became very disheartened and somewhat jaded by what I was seeing. Decisions were being made and treatments being prescribed that didn't necessarily have the goal of curing people of their ailments, but rather of palliation. Since my interest was in long-term health care and disease prevention, there just seemed to be a better way to go about it. So medical school interviews went out the window (much to my parents' dismay) as I looked for something else.
After some researching, homeopathy jumped out at me and reeled me in both as a profession and a way of life (and I've been hooked ever since!). I did my first year at a school downtown Toronto before transferring to the Devon program, which I have absolutely loved. It's given me a fantastic foundation for my practice, which I am enjoying having on a part-time basis right now. I was also lucky enough to become a part of the wonderful Yondercott family as the Canadian Rep for the School, which I have now been doing for 5 years.
I now live in Richmond Hill, Ontario with my loving husband Steve. I practice from home, which I find truly joyful, and look forward to helping more people find homeopathy as a passionate career as well.
